About Tsumkwe

A strong sense of culture and an ancient way of life can be seen here, with traditional villages and many local festivities to behold – including traditional dancing. The town has a few shops, as well as a petrol station, clinic, police station and a disco, and while it is best to stock up on supplies if passing through, the town nevertheless is a well worthwhile stop.

A number of nearby attractions are situated in the area, including Khaudum National Park, Nyae Nyae Pan, Nyae Nyae Conservancy, Holboom Giant Baobab Tree, Ju/’hoansi Village, Grootfontein, G!hunku Crafts,The Living Museum at Grashoek village and more. The area is home to the San tribes, who still keep some semblance of traditional ways despite recent changes such as clothing and similar. Experience local culture and see what makes this village such a great stop.

Further south and east of the town is a vast expanse of wooded savannah where antelope and elephant often roam. Here you can also see the famous 'upside down' Baobab Tree, which has a fat trunk and spindly branches that make it appear the wrong way up. The beauty of this area is truly spectacular, and is not to be missed.
