Map of Otjiwarongo Accommodation

Despite not having a large number of tourist attractions, the town still offers a fascinating history and a number of interesting things to see and do. Attractions include Africat Foundation, Cheetah Conservation Fund, Rare and Endangered Species Trust, Waterberg Park, Crocodile Ranch, Walvisklip/ Aloe Garden, historical buildings, walking trails, dams, art school and dinosaur tracks.

Sheep and cattle bred in the region, which was originally inhabited by the Damara and San, who were then displaced in the early 19th century by the cattle-grazing Herero people, gave Otjiwarongo its name due to the excellent grazing within this region. Today, the town is still a highly crucial centre for cattle, as well as crocodile farming in more recent years.

Game species to be seen includes eland, kudu, oryx, giraffe, mountain zebra, hartebeest, springbuck, impala, steenbuck, duiker, damara dik-dik, blue and black wildebeest, waterbuck, warthog, lion, leopard and cheetah, while birdlife is rich with a number of endemic species to be seen.

Accommodation in this area includes a few guest houses, including the beautiful Bushpillow guest house, which offers the ideal base from which to explore the town and surrounds.
