Both names refer to the hot springs and it was because of these hot springs, that the early settlement of Windhoek came about.

SWAKOPMUND TRAVEL

Recreation is this town’s number one draw card! There are countless goings-on to explore and activities to enjoy. Just a few of the adventurous activities available include sand boarding, quad biking, dune carting, parachuting, hot air ballooning, shark fishing, deep sea fishing and beach angling. For the more relaxed souls there are restaurants, cafes, art galleries, museums, a snake park and aquarium to delight in. Despite all of the action Swakopmund still manages to create a feeling of timelessness; the streets are lined with palms, there are seaside promenades, fine accommodation, a pleasant summer climate and decent beaches.

DAMARALAND TRAVEL

One of the most scenic areas in Namibia. Damaraland is a colossal, untamed and ruggedly beautiful expanse that offers a more adventurous challenge. Here there are ancient water courses with open plains and grassland, huge granite koppies and deep gorges. In the west you will find animals that have adapted to surviving in the harshness of the sun-blistered and almost waterless desert. Highlights of the area include The Brandberg - Namibia's highest mountain and home to the famous 'White Lady' Bushman Painting, Twyfelfontein - a wonderful rocky outcrop with thousands of Bushman engravings, Spitzkoppe - a typical pointed inselberg, and a place of great mystery to the ancient San people , The Petrified Forest - which is millions of years old as well as The Vingerklip (finger rock) - a towering finger of limestone that rises 35m above its base.

SKELETON COAST TRAVEL

What greater contrast than a desert alongside an ocean? This exists at Namibia’s northern seaboard where the edge of the Namib Desert pushes a sea of hot sand into the frosty waters of the South Atlantic. This world famous area received its name due to the many ships that were wrecked here resulting in scatterings of skulls and crossbones. Even the weather here is sinister, as the harsh sun is rivalled by the chilly sea breezes and dense, eerie fog that blows in across the cold Benguela current. Camps and safari lodges in the Skeleton Coast National Park offer isolated and inspiring experiences, as well as some insight into the customs of the local Himba tribe.

ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK TRAVEL

The third largest National Park in Africa, Etosha is centred on a massive saltpan and is home to game and predators of all sizes. It is one of Southern Africa’s finest and significant Game Reserves; it was declared a National Park more than a century ago in 1907 and provides a habitat to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish. Etosha National Park offers excellent game viewing in one of Africa’s most accessible venues and surely the best campsites in Africa as well as nature reserves and informative walks and tours.
