About Namib Naukluft Park |
Famous for its towering dunes and key attractions such as Sossusvlei, Sesriem canyon and the Naukluft Mountain, the park is a fantastic landscape of dunes, sky and mountains, with rare wetlands to be found to break the dryness.
Plant life is mostly absent, although the estuarine lagoon at Sandwich Harbour offers some relief from the barrenness of the land. The dunes of Namib Naukluft are the tallest in the world, in places rising more than 300 meters (this is almost 1000 feet) above the desert floor! This literally makes the mind boggle as you stare up at the massive dunes in wonder, a sight that is sure to stick in your mind for many years to come. Make sure that you bring your camera, with plenty of film or memory card to capture the breathtaking sights of the Namib dunes.
Along with photography, you can enjoy a number of things to see and do within the park. Activities such as game drives, nature walks, bird watching, hiking, dune boarding, dune walks and more are par for the course, along with relaxing on top of a dune as you watch the sun setting over the desert – a truly unforgettable sight. |
