Major attractions such as the Petrified Forest, Welwitschia mirabilis, Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain, the Organ Pipes, Doros Crater, Marienfluss and Hartmann valleys, Ugab Terraces, Epupa Falls, Khowarib Schlucht and Witbooisdrift are all situated within this region. Khorixas may not be the most exciting town in Namibia, but with its idea location you can set up camp in this town and set off to explore the wonders of the Damaraland.
Twyfelfontein are particularly worthwhile paying a visit too, and offer some of the most spectacular sights imaginable. Some of these rock formations have been in this region for thousands of years, and as such this area deserves its World Heritage Site status.
The local Damara tribes call this area home, and guests can visit the local conservation project that is run by these tribes. Aside from this, there are a few shops in the town, as well as a bank (Standard Bank), a petrol station, a rest camp and a lodge. There is also a curio market, but be careful of the beggars and curio hawkers that will try and sell you overpriced goods.
