12 Day Koakoland Guided Self Drive
Explore the beautiful Koakoland with a guided self-drive excursion that offers the ultimate way to travel Namibia’s wondrous landscapes. The Koakoland excursion takes you across some of the most beautiful areas, including Damaraland, Kaokoland, Epupa Falls and the Erongo Mountain Conservancy. Set off for the open roads, and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime as you view stunning landscapes and a host of people, wildlife, birds and plant life across the area.

DAY 1 - SAFARI HOTEL, WINDHOEK This morning will be spent on an off-road driving course to teach you basic off-road driving techniques. This includes lectures and practical experience on off-road terrain. (L)
DAY 2 - GELBINGEN GUEST FARM, DAMARALAND Departing Windhoek, your first adventure takes you to the far northwestern area of Namibia. In the evening you will join the Ovahimba in their traditional village around the campfire. (B,L,D)
DAY 3 - OMARUNGA CAMPSITE, KAOKOLAND The journey takes you further north in the direction of Opuwo. Having filled the tanks for the last time, you will continue northward to the Epupa Falls on the Kunene River. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - OMARUNGA CAMPSITE, KAOKOLAND After breakfast you can explore the Ovahimba culture, visiting authentic settlements in the area to meet its inhabitants to learn about their culture and tradition. Your guide will explain certain codes and rules that must be observed and adhered to in order not to interfere with the traditional rituals of the Ovahimba. (B,L,D)
DAY 5 - VAN ZYL’S PASS CAMPSITE, KAOKOVELD Today you will continue the journey that takes you over some very rugged terrain via Okangwati and Etengwa towards Van Zyl’s Pass. You will set up camp in the area around Otjitanda. (B,L,D)
DAY 6 & 7 - CAMP SYNCHRO, MARIENFLUSS The next two days you will reach Marienfluss and explore this area's attractions - camping overnight near the Kunene River. (B,L,D)
DAY 8 - PURROS CAMPSITE, PURROS The route today takes you out of the Marienfluss valley in the direction of Orupembe. The area traveled in today may present chance encounters of rare and endangered animal species such as the desert elephant, black rhino and lion. In the afternoon we set up camp in the Orupembe or Purros area. (B,L,D)
DAY 9 - ONGONGO CAMPSITE, PURROS Today you will continue via the Hoarusib River to the oasis of Sesfontein. Visiting the spectacular Khowarib Gorge, the journey continues in the direction of Palmwag to Ongongo Falls, where you will camp for the night. (B,L,D)
DAY 10 - MOWANI MOUNTAIN CAMP, TWYFELFONTEIN The drive continues further south to reach the Huab Riverbed and the Twyfelfontein area. Your luxurious lodge offers spectacular views from the top of a granite mountain. (B,L,D)
DAY 11 - AIAIBA LODGE, TWYFELFONTEIN After breakfast today you can visit the rock engravings at the world heritage site of Twyfelfontein. You will then continue in a southeasterly direction via Uis to the Erongo Mountains and continue to Ai – Aiba Lodge, where you will spend the nights. (B,L,D)
DAY 12 - WINDHOEK On this last day, you will begin the drive back to Windhoek, via the towns of Omaruru and Okahandja. The tour ends when you arrive back in the capital city. (B)
